The Holy Spirit Is a She

Father, Son and Holy Ghost?
They ghosted Her.
I remember,
Standing in church and calling on the Holy Spirit.
Feeling it arrive when the air became thick,
Hunched over from the weight of it,
It’s love ever blooming in my heart,
Too much to hold
What is this unending Grace?
I always cry when I feel it,
So beautiful, it almost hurts
Too pure to comprehend.
Those men at the pulpit never called Her a She.
It was an it.
In their story there are only two men,
And this force of devotion?
Dripping with passion.
It was just an…it.
A kiss with no name
A fire with no face.
A power that belongs to the Father.
Is that the only thing that defines Her?
They took away Her name.
Because they couldn’t contain Her.
Wrenched Her from the Story,
Levelled Her temples to ruins,
A Father, a Child…
And all with no Mother?
But still, be still She comes.
She doesn’t need you to know Her name.
While you call Her Devil
She wraps Her love around you.
While you spit on Her priestesses,
She showers blessings on you.
And each time, the honour She deserves
You give to some man.
But still She comes.
Be still She comes.
Sophia
Sophia
Sophia
That is its name.
The only saviour and the only sacrifice,
The source of every prophet
And any pure thing you have ever known.
Sophia.
Say Her name.
But even if you don’t,
She comes.
